Fabrics

1. Upper leather and outer leather – As a rule the leather used in the top layer is the most durable and expensive. It must be smooth, shiny and respond effectively to a range of conditions. A shoe will last several years if this leather is thick and tough.

2. Inner side of the top layer – The same leather as the last but the inner side is showing on the outside. The leather used here is the toughest and most resistant and durable thanks to its thickness and resistance to friction.

3. Nubuck – Upper leather which is polished to remove any roughness; responds well to various terrains, pressure and water repellent agents that usually cause leather to darken.

4. Split leather – The most durable leather thanks to its resistance to friction. It may be oiled, covered with wax, polished to get nubuck leather or suede for a more attractive appearance and improved water repellence. Its outer surface is though looser compared to upper leather, ensuring softness.

5. Pigskin – Perfect for outdoor and casual models that are painted. It is treated with tanning substances and painted using protective agents to avoid stains and ensure an even painting result.

6. Synthetic leather – The modern synthetic leather for footwear by Merrell is produced using state-of-the-art technology and materials, so in terms of durability it is not inferior to natural leather, it even outperforms it in case of certain parameters (such as lightness, greater elasticity and appearance over a lengthier period). Synthetic leather is used for both outdoor and casual footwear.

7. Fabric mesh – used in both outdoor and casual models. It is often used in combination with other materials, such as leather and textile; allows for better ventilation and breathability. The fabric mesh used in footwear by Merrell is produced using strong threads which ensure that the material is durable and resistant to wear.

8. TPU mesh (thermoplastic polyurethane) – mainly used in outdoor footwear. It is a strong and durable mesh material. Used both separately and combined with other materials.

9. Textile – Used in both outdoor and casual models, often combined with leather; leaves the material light, ventilated and breathable. The fabric mesh used in footwear by Merrell is produced using strong threads which ensure that the material is durable and resistant to wear.
